STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — July 9, 2016. A hundred organizers, activists, and NYPD officers marched through the Island’s North Shore Saturday night. In the wake of the police shootings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, La. and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minn – and the sniper shooting of 12 police officers in Dallas – activists were calling for an end to all of the senseless killing and demanding accountability from the NYPD.
